Nassau County Museum of Art is reopening March 13th after two weeks of reinstallation. A whole collection of exciting new exhibitions will be on display. Take a peek at what's in store starting next week and going up through May!

MIRO/DUBUFFET/BASQUIAT- March 13, 2010 through May 24, 2010
Works by Joan Miró, Jean Dubuffet and Jean-Michel Basquiat are shown together for the first time. The artists do not share generation nor culture, but they do share a confrontational antagonism to the traditional and academic, resulting in art that is raw, bold and forthright.

A major exhibition that showcases work by one of the most honored Latin American artists working today. Featuring an artist best known for his voluptuous figures, Fernando Botero includes a range of paintings, drawings and monumental sculpture that exemplify Botero’s most familiar themes.

UNDER THE BIG TOP-Through May 24, 2010
With its color, daring and explosive fun, the circus has always been a theme that intrigues and inspires artists. In Under the Big Top, NCMA’s The Children’s Museum presents reproductions of circus art by Seurat, Léger, Prendergast, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso, Chagall and others, showcasing them alongside displays that guide the museum’s young visitors through explorations of circus skills.
On the grounds around NCMA there are on going things to do. Take a stroll through Sculpture Park where one will find more than 50 works by renowned artists. Check out the Walking Trails, the museum’s 145 acres include many marked nature trails through the woods. NCMA’s 145 acre property also features many lush example of horticultural arts in the Gardens.
During the month of March NCMA is hosting some events: (Check NCMA’s website for more information)
• Family Sunday at the museum. Each Sunday the museum offers a 1 pm docent-led family walk-through of the exhibition and, beginning at 1:30 pm, supervised art activities for the whole family.
• NCMA Art School
• Craftspeople and fine artists are invited to apply for NCMA’s Spring Craft and Fine Art Fair, to be held on the museum grounds on May 22 and 23.
