Junior Debbie Aller (Stony Brook, N.Y.) nearly gave the Seawolves (6-9-2, 5-2-1 AE) the lead in the 32nd minute as she hit a shot from 20 yards out. But Maine goalkeeper Meagan Price-Leibenzeder tipped the shot just over the crossbar to prevent SBU from taking the lead.
Neither team was able to push across a goal the rest of the first half as the teams went into the break scoreless. Viola made six saves in the opening period for Stony Brook, which had four shot in the first half.
But Maine (7-5-2, 4-2-1 AE) struck just 1:17 into the second half as Kelsey Wilson chipped a shot over the head of Viola from 35 yards out to give the Black Bears a 1-0 lead. Hannah Breton made it 2-0 just over five minutes later as she collected a rebound off a shot from Laura Martel and then put it past Viola.
Breton added a second goal in the 69th minute as she took a cross from Carolyne Nellis and then struck a shot that went off the left post and in. Martel tallied the final score of the contest in the 79th minute off an assist from Breton.
Viola made five saves in the second half for the Seawolves, who finished the game with a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Price-Leibenzeder made four saves in goal for Maine to record the shutout.
