And the food is delicious!
It's the East Bay Diner on Merrick Road in Seaford, just east of the Wantagh Parkway.
My parents are diner afficiandos. They eat meals at diners at least five days a week. Their favorite used to be the Embassy Diner on Hempstead Tpke. in Bethpage. Their favorite waiter, Edgar, used to take such good care of them. He knew what they drank, what they were going to order depending on what day it was, when to refill their coffee, and that they would be taking home leftovers. As senior citizens and on a fixed income, they would usually share their meal (which was enough for two anyway) and eating out was still affordable.
W
hen the diner instituted a sharing charge, my parents were upset, and since they were eating there so many times a week, those sharing charges would really add up.
In search of a new diner...
And believe me, they searched!
Their search ended when they discovered the East Bay Diner. My parents lived in Farmingdale, and going to Seaford was a little bit further than going to Bethpage, however, they hit the jackpot when they found East Bay.
They go for lunch and always order a lunch special which they share. By the way, no sharing charge! Their vegetable lasagna, which comes with a greek salad on the side, and soup to start, coffee (remember, they're old!) and a slice of cake for dessert, you can't go wrong for $10.95. They found their new "Edgar", in the name of Joanie. She and my parents bonded, and when they didn't show up one day, she was worried.
The sad news is that my parents recently moved to an over 55 development in Mt. Sinai. They haven't found a diner they like, and they certainly haven't found an Edgar or a Joanie.
So if anyone knows of a diner in the Mt. Sinai area that doesn't charge a sharing charge, has good food, big portions, and a waiter or waitress who cares,
