Stony Brook University freshman midfielder Leonardo Fernandes (North
Babylon, N.Y.) has been nominated for the 2009 America East Men's Soccer Fan's
Choice Player of the Year award, as announced by the conference office on
Wednesday. Voting will end on Monday, November 2 at noon and the winner will be
announced on AmericaEast.com on Tuesday, November 3. Fernandes is tied with freshman Berian Gobeil (Montreal, Quebec) for the team lead in goals with five and they are tops in
points among all America East freshmen. Fernandes is two goals away from tying
Shane Arikian's '04 Division I program record of goals by a freshman with
seven. Stony Brook has already clinched a
spot in next week's six-team America East tournament and will wrap up its 2009
regular season on Saturday, hosting Hartford at 7 pm.
