The Seawolves’ Senior Muhammad El-Amin scored a game-high of
26 points and was named America East Player of the Game on the 16th of February
at the RAC Arena in Batlimore, MD. The Seawolves now hold a record of 19-7
overall and 11-2 in the America East.
“This was a good win for our guys on the road against a well-coached UMBC
team,” Stony Brook head coach Steve Pikiell said. “We really picked up our defense in the second half
and that was the difference in the game.”
Martin scored the first eight Stony Brook points of the game to give the Seawolves
an early 8-6 lead. The Retrievers scored the next four points before senior Andrew Goba scored on
a put-back to tie it at 10. The game was back and forth throughout the first half and ended with a 38-34
lead for the Seawolves.
Jumping back into the game at the end of the half UMBC struggled to keep up.
Shawn Grant hit two free throws on UMBC’s opening possession of the second half to cut the Stony
Brook advantage to two but Joyner then knocked down two free throws to kick start an 8-0 Seawolves run
than gave them a 10-point lead four minutes into the half. The Seawolves held a substantial lead
throughout the second half ending with their eighth straight win and an 86-72 victory over UMBC. Brook shot
51.8 percent for the game, its third straight game over 50 percent.
